It has been officially announced that the National Examination Council (NECO) 2016/2017 result has been released today. According to Prof. Charles Uwakwe, Registrar of the Council, out of the 1,022,474 who sat for the examination, 88.51% of candidates obtained at least five credits including mathematics and english Language. He further revealed that 905,011 (84.54 per cent) of candidates got 5 credits and above in English Language while
812,846 (80.16 percent) got 5 credits and above in
Mathematics.
Ekiti State recorded the highest with 96.48 percent and
Katsina State recording the least with 72.59 percent.
He however noted that 43,905 cases of malpractice were
recorded, with 194 schools implicated in cases of mass cheating; adding that the results of candidates involved have
been cancelled.
The November 30 deadline for conclusion of admissions into higher institutions for 2016 remains effective, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Friday.
The Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, reaffirmed the deadline in Abuja in his address at the opening of an Extra-Ordinary Technical Committee Meeting on 2016 Admissions to First Choice Institutions.
The meeting held at the Baze University, Abuja.
He said the meeting was an indication that the board was ready to attend to legitimate requests of its stakeholders and clients in the collective quest for efficiency.
Oloyede said that JAMB would be flexible except in cases where flexibility would be unethical or inimical to national interest.
According to him, the meeting is in line with the board’s pledge to be consultative and all-inclusive in the discharge of its functions.
Oloyede said, “The First Technical Committee Meeting was held in Bayero University, Kano, from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26, where institutions were expected to make submissions for their first choice admissions to admissions’ panels at the technical sessions.

Nigeria’s university teachers’ union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has denied reports that its members have issued a strike notice to the Federal over unpaid dues as reported by some newspapers. Dr Ben Ugheoke, Chairman, University of Abuja chapter of ASUU said in a statement on Tuesday that the union has not issued strike notice to the Federal Government contrary to media reports. He also denied granting any interview or issuing a statement on a pending strike as it was reported. “My attention has been drawn to a publication online and on social media captioned UniAbuja ASUU to begin strike on Oct. 2. “The public and ASUU National Executive Council should know and note that no one came, either as journalist or any press team, to interview me. “I hereby denounce such a publication as the work of mischief makers, targeted at misleading the unsuspecting public about the trajectory of the struggles of ASUU. “ASUU is committed to revitalising the University of Abuja and indeed, the education system of Nigeria,’’ he said in the statement,” the University of Abuja ASUU Chairman said in the statement. When five days ago, some indigenes of Oyo State, under the auspices of Ogbomoso Parapo Worldwide Home Branch, protested and asked the Osun State Government to hands off in the running of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, the incident underscored the oddities the ivory tower has passed through in recent years.
The protest in which the protesters also asked Osun State indigenes in the university to leave the school also reminded stakeholders of the challenges both the workers and students are currently undergoing. Aside from the fact that the gates of the school are shut, its workers have not received their salaries for many months now.
Some of the placards the protesters carried read, ‘Osun State, leave LAUTECH for Oyo State’, ‘Do not destroy LAUTECH, it is Oyo’s glory’, ‘Osun, quit now,’ ‘Federal Government, save LAUTECH from Osun State Government – No salaries for 14 months.’
Authorities of the University of Lagos have warned candidates seeking placement in the institution to shun any admission notification that comes through a text message.
Such a message, according to the institution, is a scam, as it does not offer admission to students by text messages.
The clarification comes amid the rising anxiety among candidates over their admission status for the 2016/2017 academic session.
Six months after the release of this year’s universities Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, many candidates have yet to know their fate.
But in an online statement obtained by our correspondent from its website on Monday, the university said, “It has come to the notice of the university authorities that a text message is being sent to prospective students by unknown persons notifying them that they have been given admission into the University of Lagos.
“This is a scam. The message did not emanate from the University of Lagos.
“Members of the public are advised to ignore this message as the University of Lagos does not send text messages to admitted candidates and it does not require anyone to call any number.
“The University website is the only authentic source of information on admissions.”
