Nigeria would need over 2billion dollars to combat tuberculosis
as part of its national strategic plan for the period between 2016 and 2020 country representative of challenge TB/KNCV foundation, Dr. Gidado Mustapha said on thursday.
According to him, the amount will assist nigeria to diagonose not less than 600 to about a million cases of tuberculosis. He said nigeria had an estimated 570,000 tuberculosis patients annually adding that unfortunately, the country is only able to detect about 90,330 cases TB, which is about 15 percent of the estimated tuberculosis cases in the country.
Mustapha stated these during a press briefing ahead of the international summit on TB scheduled to take place next week in Abuja. The summit will be attendend by United Nations official, DR. Eric Goosby; with the executive Director, Global Stop TB partnership, Dr. Lucia Ditiu and Global director for challenge TB/KNCV, DR. Maarten Van Cleef, among experts expected at teh event.
